GENERAL JOB STATEMENT
Department Head is responsible for overseeing the daily aspects of swine
farrowing including maintaining farrowing targets, individual sow and piglet
care, feeding, farrowing, piglet health and vaccination program, nutrition,
staff development, and record keeping.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Breeding Department Head pre-farrow and post-farrow sow movements.

Ensure all NFP
records and forms are accurately completed and submitted in a timely manner.

evaluate all department employees and complete employee performance evaluations
with Sow Farm Manager.

Oversee and perform daily chores for

and repair facilities and equipment.

day-to-day management, problem litters and sows, fostering newborns,
backfilling farrowing crates, weaning rooms, and 4-week weaning projection.
Work with main
office staff to correct record discrepancies.
Assist Farm Manager

Able to perform
all Farrowing Department tasks and positions.

degree (A.A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school education
in swine production; or two years related experience and/or training; or
equivalent combination of education and training.
closely with Sow Farm Manager, Breeding Department Head, and Farrowing
performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to have ordinary
ambulatory skills sufficient to move throughout the farm; and the ability to
stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, climb 4-foot gates, and manipulate (lift,
carry, move) medium to heavy weights of 50-75 pounds. Requires good hand-eye
coordination, arm, hand and finger dexterity, including ability to grasp. Frequently
required to sit, reach with hands and arms, and communicate.
