GENERAL JOB STATEMENT
The Nursery Herdsperson is responsible for assisting with the daily aspects of wean to finish production including, but not limited to daily care of wean to finish pigs, wean pig placement, individual and group medication, record keeping, and minor facility maintenance.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Wean to Finish Barns
Assist with daily care of pigs.
Groups of pigs will range from 18 days to 25 weeks of age.
Assist with load-in and load-out of pigs.
Assist with research trials.
Feed budgeting and feed ordering for the complex.
Maintain bio-security standards (includes dead pig removal).
Maintain production records (completed on a weekly basis).
Minor facility maintenance.
Primary responsibility will be to care for the wean pigs in each barn until a portion of the pigs are moved to finishing approximately 8 weeks.
This includes wean pig placement, sorting and quality control, vaccination and individual/group treatments, and load out.

All other tasks and responsibilities as may be required by NFP.
Attend staff meetings and trainings as scheduled and required.

Regular and consistent attendance.
REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Able to independently schedule activities

Read and interpret procedure manuals.
Associate's degree (A.A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school in swine production; or two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and training.
Interacts closely with the Nursery Manager.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to have ordinary ambulatory skills sufficient to move throughout the farm; and the ability to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, climb 4-foot gates, and manipulate (lift, carry, move) medium to heavy weights of 50-75 pounds. Requires good hand-eye coordination, arm, hand and finger dexterity, including ability to grasp. Frequently required to sit, reach with hands and arms, and communicate.
