New Fashion Pork is seeking a Breeding
Department Head for our Thorp, WI location.
The Breeding Department Head is responsible for overseeing all daily
aspects of swine breeding, including maintaining breeding targets, daily AI
breeding, semen inventory and delivery, herd health and vaccination program,
nutrition, assisting with isolation and acclimation of replacement gilts, staff
development, and record keeping.
The Breeding Department Head will:
- Assist farrowing department
personnel on weaning days when necessary.
- Coordinate with Farrowing
Department Head pre-farrow and post-farrow sow movements.
- Gilt Development and Isolation
Facilities--Maintain department vaccination schedule, Maintain
isolation/acclimation of gilts, Monitor department health status, Organize
gilt scheduling, delivery, and movements.
- Maintain and submit accurate whole
farm production records weekly.
- Manage and evaluate all department
employees and complete employee performance evaluations with Sow Farm
- Manage and perform dead pig
- Monitor and order medication and
supplies for all departments.
- Monitor pit status and timely
removal of nutrients.
- Monitor semen delivery, inventory
and expiration date.
- Monitor working condition on
- Oversee and perform daily chores
for department--Checking waters, Determine cull sows and transportation,
Environment, Feeding, and Maintain unit cleanliness, Manage gilt inventory
and gilt flow, Monitor whole herd health, and Perform daily AI on sows and
Must have Bachelor's degree in Animal
Science, Veterinary Science, Animal Breeding, Animal Husbandry or other related
field and two years of experience working with breeding sows.
