GENERAL JOB STATEMENT: The Lab Technician works closely with the New Fashion Pork veterinarians with administrative tasks associated with manufacturing of medications and vaccinations, purity testing, fluid and tissue samples, diagnostic lab paperwork and results, keeping records up-to-date, and complying with FDA regulations.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Inventory management of vaccines and bottle and manage raw ingredients.
File, fill out diagnostic lab forms, autogenous vaccination/isolate related forms, update farm records, and update in Pork Office.
Assist with maintaining and distributing weekly Health Status Report—moved from marketing portion.
Manage the mixed medication inventory.
Prepare management of diagnostic lab paperwork and results.
Prepare and titer and purity testing of autogenous E. coli, salmonella, and staph vaccines.
Print/email health paper verification information to required states.
Assist with scheduling outside veterinarian visits for sites in IL, IN, SD, WY, MN, and IA weekly.
Ship tissues and other diagnostic lab samples.
Assist veterinary assistant and staff veterinarians with health-related trials and/or projects in the field.
Serve as a backup lab technician at the Alpha AIC.
Assist with receiving and filling orders.
Assist with deliveries and shipments.
Disinfect all incoming supplies and boxes.
General housekeeping and custodial duties.
Keep warehouse shelves organized and product stacked on a first in/first out basis.
Operate forklift as needed.
Order supplies for laboratory and warehouse.
Work with warehouse team members to comply with warehouse hours which are Monday thru Thursday 7:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and Friday 7:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Periodic switchboard/receptionist duties and office maintenance duties.

REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Discipline to meet deadlines.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Familiar with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
High School Diploma or GED required. Minimum of two years' experience or equivalent combination of education in animal science or veterinary technology preferred.
Interacts closely with Company Veterinarian, Purchasing Department, Production staff, and other office staff.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to have the ability to manipulate (lift, carry and/or move) light to medium weights of 10-50 pounds. Requires arm, hand and finger dexterity, including ability to grasp, and visual acuity to use a keyboard, operate equipment, and read. The employee is frequently required to sit, reach with hands and arms, talk, and hear. Position also requires repetitive hand motion (typing/data entry) daily. Employee is also required to stand for a couple of hours at a time. Must be able to work with and around live pigs.
